Editorial approach

Each episode looks at how authoritarian power is built and kept: delegitimised elections, the suppression of opposition, attacks on independent media, political violence, unequal citizenship and the spread of surveillance. It also covers the courts, institutions, journalists and citizens who check that power, and the places where democracy holds or recovers.

Episodes aim to separate what is documented from what is interpreted, to describe events in precise rather than inflammatory language, and to list their sources on the episode page. Mistakes are corrected openly.
